Self Promotion - Best Marketing for Independent Barbers & Stylist!

I hope everyone’s weekend is going well. I was just watching Omarosa on another installment of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. I’m not a fan of Omarosa but I have to respect one thing about her, and even Donald Trump will be the first to admit it. Omarosa knows how to keep her name in the buzz and not in all the bad ways like Britney, & Paris! There are no scandals, just a fiery personality, a take no prisoner attitude, and a deep desire to succeed at all costs. She’s also a master at self-promotion. No one loves Omarosa more than Omarosa herself, she loves to be the bad guy.

I can’t really pound this in enough. If you’ve subscribed (and I suggest you do!) to this blog, then you will hear this time and time again. Marketing, marketing, marketing… it’s what is going to keep you in da game! A lot of booth renters, and even some owners think short term about spending on advertising and marketing… like they can just rely on good looks, and word of mouth advertising. That is a strategy that is bound for sure failure, or at least mediocre results. A lot of you know who you are…

Every once in a while you sit back in your shop or salon and wonder why do I feel so bogged down. You know what that is… that’s a sure shot sign of spending too much time doing the same thing. You’re bored; you’re tired of the routine, day after day, seeing the same people. As barbers and hairstylist, you forget why you got in this business in the first place, the joy of this business is the interaction with new people and honing your craft to make people feel good about themselves when they get out of your chair. Here is a post I read at one Hair Care Forum recently:
It’s old, old, old. That is to say the old is where I have a 2:00 p.m. appointment to have my hair done, I arrive at 1:45 just to see that there are five people waiting ahead of me. This makes me sit and wait to get my hair done at least two hours or more.
