I recently came across a blog post about a business that truly gets what marketing can do when done right. Chop Shop Barbershop has made headlines in South Florida in a very short period of time. They’ve been able to get local and regional media attention all due to their unique vision and conceptual ideas. They have transformed the simple concept of a barbershop into a unique experience and a one of a kind themed businesses. I preach about how marketing can truly change the direction of your business so I’m going to lay out 2 reasons why Chop Shop Barbershop is successful now and will continue to be into the future:
- Differentiation - By this I mean they have completely transformed themselves from a run of the mill barbershop to a total themed experience. They’ve changed the perception of what the barbershop experience, look and feel should be and completely redefined it in the image they want.
- Innovation - They did not reinvent the wheel, they just changed the perception and presentation of it. It’s still your local barbershop but they’ve put their unique spin and carved a niche in the landscape that is all their own.
Keep doing big things, and I’ll be sure to stop in when next in the MIA! I suggest all you barbers and stylists do the same and try to figure out how you can put your unique spin on your salon or barbershop and turn that into media attention.

I’m back, had
to go to the gym… so where was I? Oh yeah, my goal is to find a way to MOTIVATE YOU to change what you’re currently doing if it’s not working and try something new that has worked in the past and will continue to work into the future. But from your emails I can already tell there is some stress and ya’ll are lookin’ for some FRESH IDEAS.
I’ve got a few barbers and stylist right now that I’ve been working with on a one on one basis… “Yeah I do consult, that’s how I make my bread!” I’ll post their results; I thought it would be cool to show you real live examples of this stuff being done, so you can believe that it can work for you to. This is not the stuff you read in the books, these are methods that major companies across the country use to build those fancy salons and franchises you see in all the malls you shop in.
